How We Got Here

Winter Garden Christian Academy began as a response to a very real need in our local community and as a reaction against the continued decline of Judeo/Christian values in our culture. In the fall of 2021 Pastor Melvin Adams began to sense the need for an affordable Biblical worldview education alternative in the Winter Garden area.

In ministering to our families, we have found that it is difficult to maintain a lasting impact on our children and youth when only utilizing the typical Sunday and Wednesday programs. Our kids only interact in our church programs on average 2-3 hours a week compared to 40+ hours in secular school environments. We find it difficult to overcome the damage that a secular world view education has on their minds with this great disparity in influence. Ministry is about relationships, and relationship building takes time. This helped us to realize the need for a greater commitment to the development of a Biblical worldview in the hearts and minds of our children and young people.

In March of 2022, Jeff Keaton, President and founder of Renewanation, came and spoke to a group of men from Faith Family Community Church on the importance of raising up a generation that has a Biblical worldview. It was a galvanizing moment for those present. Over the next few months people began to step forward and a steering committee was formed.

A Biblical worldview school will give us the opportunity to have a much greater impact on our children and young people, rectifying the disparity in influence by allowing them to be trained in a Biblical worldview for 40+ hours per week, while also removing them from the damaging influence of secular thinking in our public schools. Our goal is to launch this Biblical worldview school,  Winter Garden Christian Academy, in the fall of 2024 as a K5 - 5th grade school. At the start we will offer in-person hybrid online schooling for grades 6-12 with the potential to add conventional classrooms for the older grades as we grow.

Florida has been a leader among school choice legislation. Using “step-up for students”, one of the voucher programs provided by the state, families will be able to take the funding that would normally go to secular education and apply it to Biblical worldview education here at Winter Garden Christian Academy. This funding provides $7,000-$8200 per student (varying by grade level). With the opportunity for all families to take advantage of the funding that is available we will be able to remain affordable for everyone. We have looked at the local and state  private school market and found that there are many more children who would like to be in a private school setting than there are seats in private schools. Sadly, sometimes “Christian” schools fall short of a truly Biblical worldview in the practical application of their methodologies. Here at Winter Garden Christian Academy, we are committed to keeping Biblical worldview education as our central focus and to raise up a generation of Christian leaders who will help effect spiritual and cultural change in our world as they live out their faith in the public square.
